Christchurch based NZPRS Ltd staff has hands on farming experience with both sheep and deer and understand the practicalities, as well as the theory, of animal breeding and have been with SIL from its inception. They process data from studs throughout New Zealand, from over 12 different sheep breeds, and from the smaller to some very large stud flocks. NZPRS Ltd is one of two designated SIL service providers working with deer breeders (DEERSelect).
NZPRS Ltd provides a wide range of data forwarding services, from the manual data entry to fully electronic via the Internet. Many NZPRS Ltd clients use the Studfax performance recording program and export directly from this program. Clients receive reports either by e-mail, or in printed and bound form by post. Once new season progeny have been loaded, one day turnaround (trait data in, reports out) is possible.
NZPRS Ltd charges a base flock/herd fee to cover the loading of clean electronic data, and the forwarding of standard reports via the Internet. Additional work is charged at an hourly rate. The bureau costs for larger studs need not be much more than for smaller ones. The base fee plus extra time charge-out basis rewards breeders who supply sound data electronically. NZPRS Ltd sells a Palm based program to streamline the recording of lambing information, and can process downloads from a variety of electronic scales.
